Baseball Drops Opener in Stony Brook

Short Story: The University at Albany baseball team dropped its series opener with Stony Brook, falling 3-12 on Long Island on Friday afternoon. The Seawolves jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the opening inning. The Great Danes earned two runs in the top of the sixth and added another one in the final inning.

Head Coach Jon Mueller: "We got off to a slow start and never fully recovered. Looking forward to tomorrow."

  • Stony Brook took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the opening inning. Shane Paradine first doubled down the left field line, scoring Evan Fox. Matt Brown-Eiring followed with a two-run double to right-center, bringing home Paradine and Evan Giordano. Finally, Stanton Leuthner singled to right field to drive in Brown-Eiring.
  • The Seawolves added another run in the third when David Alleva singled to left field to score Brown-Eiring who was in scoring position.
  • Rob Manetta came in to pitch for the Great Danes to start the fifth.
  • Brendan Pattermann replaced Fero halfway through the sixth.
  • Michael Whalen got UAlbany on the board in the top of the sixth with a two-RBI double to center, driving in Johnny Marti who hit a leadoff double and Will Binder who walked.
  • Stony Brook made it 2-7 in the bottom of the same inning. Giordano singled to left field to bring home Cole Durkan and Fox crossed home on a double to left-center by Brown-Eiring.
  • Stony Brook's Leuthner homered to left field to make it 2-8 in the bottom of the seventh.
  • Steven Turk entered the game midway through the seventh.
  • Fox added another run for the Seawolves in the same inning when he doubled to left field, scoring Idris Carter.
  • Nicholas Jessen came in to pitch in the same inning.
  • Still in the seventh, Paradine extended Stony Brook's lead to 11-2 on a two-run double down the left field line, driving in Fox and Durkan.
  • Leuthner crossed home on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth to make it 2-12.
  • Brad Malm singled to left-center in the ninth to bring home Josh Salandy, who previously doubled.
