Short Story: The University at Albany baseball team defeated the Iona Gaels 11-1 in the final game of a three-game series to complete the weekend sweep. Connor Eisenmann pitched seven strong innings, allowing just one hit and striking out seven.

Coach Jon Mueller: "Premium defense begins with the guy who has the ball in his hand. Eisenmann was outstanding today and had great rhythm.  We were able to score some runs late to extend the lead."

  • Brad Malm was the only Great Dane with multiple hits, going 2-5 with one double, two RBIs and an intentional walk.
  • Jason Bottari went 1-5, hitting a two-run home run to collect two RBIs. He also collected a walk.
  • Mike Prisco was the last Great Dane to collect two RBIs. He went 1-3 and recorded two walks.
  • Carson Dunkel, Johnny Marti, Michael Whalen and Ryan Ferremi each had one hit for UAlbany. Dunkel went 1-2 with an RBI and four walks. Marti hit a double to collect one RBI, going 1-4. Both Whalen and Ferremi finished with one RBI each.

How it Happened:
  • Connor Eisenmann started on the mound for the Great Danes, Paul Sullivan started for the Gaels.
  • The Great Danes opened the scoring in the first inning, bringing home two runners to make it 2-0. Brad Malm scored on a wild pitch after hitting a double to left field to get into scoring position, and Jason Bottari scored off a double to right center by Johnny Marti.
  • Bottari increased UAlbany's lead to 4-0 in the top of the sixth. He hit a two-run shot over the left field fence and scored Carson Dunkel who previously walked, stole second, and advanced to third on a passed ball.
  • Michael Untracht came into the game for Iona to start the seventh.
  • In the top of the eighth, Ryan Ferremi singled to center field to score Michael Whalen.
  • Gavin Bates replaced Untracht on the mound for Iona midway through the eighth.
  • Rob Manetta took the mound for UAlbany in the bottom of the eighth.
  • Still in the eighth, Jake Field got Iona on the board with a single through the left side, scoring Luca Lotito.
  • Eric Gialloreto took the mound for the Gaels midway through the ninth.
  • UAlbany added six runs in the top of the ninth. Whalen walked with the bases loaded to score Carson Dunkel. Mike Prisco hit a two-run single through the right side, scoring Johnny Marti and Bottari. Malm hit another two-RBI single, scoring Prisco and Whalen. Finally, Dunkel singled to right field to score Will Feil, making it 11-1 in favor of UAlbany.
  • Steven Turk replaced Manetta in the bottom of the ninth.
