Short Story: The University at Albany baseball team dropped its first America East game of the year. The Great Danes fell to the UMBC Retrievers 9-10 in the final game of a three-game series, having won on Friday and Saturday.
Head Coach Jon Mueller: "Overall we had a good weekend. We lost the free pass battle and had five of them score on the defensive end. We will need to improve in that area moving forward."

- UAlbany pitchers:
- Will Binder and Jason Bottari led the team with two RBIs each. Binder went 2-5, Bottari went 2-4.
- Michael Whalen collected the most hits for the Great Danes, including a home run. He went 3-5 while also scoring three runs and picking up one RBI.
- Johnny Marti and Chris Fisher were the last Great Danes with multiple hits, both going 2-4. Marti scored once and had one RBI, Fisher brought home two runs and recorded an RBI.
- Will Feil went 0-5 but drove in one run.
- UAlbany left 10 runners on base, UMBC left eight.
- UAlbany recorded five walks, whereas UMBC had seven.
- Great Dane batters struck out 11 times, Retrievers four times.
How it Happened:
- Connor Eisenmann started on the mound for the Great Danes, Keegan Leffler started for the Retrievers.
- UAlbany opened the scoring in the top of the first. Marti hit a leadoff double and Will Binder later brought him home with an RBI single.
- In the bottom of the first, UMBC's Ian Diaz hit a three-run home run, scoring Christian Ensley and Myles Nicholson.
- Michael Whalen scored in the top of the second off a sac fly by Marti, making it 2-3 in favor of UMBC.
- UAlbany took the lead in the top of the fourth. Marti first tied the game at three when he reached first on an error, scoring Whalen. Will Feil grounded out but scored Chris Fisher, making it 4-3. Jason Bottari batted in the final run of the inning with an RBI single to short, scoring Marti.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Easley singled to center, scoring Tony Krueger and making it 5-4.
- Fisher gave UAlbany a 6-4 lead in the fifth with an RBI single to right field, scoring John Daly.
- Joe Pucek took the mound for UMBC to start the sixth.
- Joseph Tobia replaced Eisenmann midway through the sixth.
- Drew Roberts hit a three-run double to center in the bottom of the sixth, giving UMBC a 6-7 advantage.
- Still in the sixth, Nicholson singled to center, scoring Roberts and making it 6-8.
- Cregg Scherrer entered the game to start the bottom of the seventh.
- UMBC made it 6-10 in the same inning when Connor Kelly and Justin Taylor scored on a sac fly by Nolan Charlton (error on the play).
- Whalen hit a leadoff home run at the beginning of the eighth, getting one run back for UAlbany.
- Evan Selmer came in to take the mound for UMBC halfway through the eighth.
- The Great Danes added two more runs in the top of the eighth, making it 9-10. Jason Bottari singled to UMBC's pitcher to score Fisher and Will Binder hit another RBI single, scoring Brad Malm.
- Steven Turk replaced Scherrer to start the bottom of the eighth.
