Short Story: The University at Albany baseball team split Friday's doubleheader with Coppin State in two very high scoring games.

Coach Jon Mueller: "Nice bounce back win in game two. We played clean defense all day and if we continue to do that and win the free passes, we will be in a good position moving forward."

  • UAlbany pitchers:
  • Brad Malm and Will Binder led the team with three hits each. Malm had one RBI off of his ninth home run of the year, Binder had a team-leading three RBIs.
  • Jason Bottari and Johnny Marti both finished with two RBIs. Both went 1-5.
  • Also collecting hits for the Great Danes was John Daly and Mike Prisco.
  • Eight Great Danes struck out, five Eagles struck out.
  • UAlbany left 14 runners on base, Coppin State left 14 as well.

How it Happened Game 1:
  • Ray Weber started on the mound for UAlbany
  • Coppin State scored three runs in the first off of two RBI singles and a sac lineout.
  • The Eagles added five more runs in the second on two doubles and a triple to take an 8-0 advantage.
  • UAlbany responded in the fourth, scoring six. Will Binder doubled to center to score Josh Loeffler and Mike Prisco. Bran Malm then reached on an error by the Coppin State third baseman, scoring Binder. Jason Bottari then walked with the bases juiced to Malm. Finally, Johnny Marti doubled down the right field line to collect two RBIs, scoring Carson Dunkel and John Daly.
  • The Eagles added one in the bottom of the fourth off an RBI single from Hankins.
  • Binder continued the scoring for the Great Danes in the fifth, hitting a solo shot to center. He was later followed by Dunkel reaching on an error, seeing Will Feil score to make the game 8-9 in favor of the Eagles.
  • In the bottom of the fifth the Eagles added four more runs. Two runs came in on a walk and a hit by pitch with the bases loaded before two more crossed the plate off a single up the middle.
  • Malm hit his ninth home run of the season in the seventh to make it 9-13 in favor of Coppin State.
  • The Eagles added four more runs before ending their scoring assault. Two runs crossed the plate in the seventh on a double, and another two came home in the eighth on a single down the left side.
  • UAlbany scored the final run of the game in the ninth off a Jason Bottari single, scoring Daly.
 
How it Happened Game 2:
  • Brad Malm got the ball rolling in the first with his 10th home run of the season, a solo shot to left. The Great Danes made it 2-0 the same inning with a Jason Bottari single up the middle, scoring John Daly.
  • Malm struck again in the second, this time with an RBI single, scoring Chris Fisher, to make it 3-0. Carson Dunkel followed with a two RBI single and Will Feil hit a two run blast to make it 7-0 before the end of the second inning.
  • Johnny Marti homered in the third to make 9-0, scoring Fisher in the process.
  • Coppin State got on the board in the third with an RBI single from Miley.
  • Binder reached on an error in the sixth, scoring Michael Whalen.
  • In the seventh, John Daly singled dowen the left field line to score Malm and make the score 13-1.The Great Danes made it 14-1 in the eighth with a walk to Malm with the bases loaded.
  • The eagles scored two in the eighth with two RBI doubles, one from Hilton and one from Hankins.
  • Bottari scored the final run for UAlbany in the ninth with a solo shot to center field.
