Dwayne seeks to impact his players in a way that helps them prepare for life, while also engaging in the Capital Region community during their time as Great Danes.

“For me it’s going to start with building better men. I want to inspire these guys to be the best leaders they can become, and really produce guys that are going to impact communities.”

QUICK STOP FOR A BIT OF FUN

After a quick stop at their hotel, the Killings family made their way to the campus at the University at Albany. Upon arrival, they were able to check out SEFCU Arena and Casey Stadium, where they were able to quickly chat with football head coach Greg Gattuso.

THE “PERFECT PLACE" TO CALL HOME

I just couldn't wait to get to a place that felt natural. As soon as I got here, saw the people, saw the football practice, and saw my kids running around, I knew this was the perfect place to call home.

Dwayne Killings Jersey
I had the opportunity to speak with Dwayne Killings last week. Soon after I got off the Zoom call, I realized that we had found someone very special. It was clear to me that Coach Killings' philosophy, views, and values matched up very well with our aspirations here at the University at Albany.

He's a guy with high character and high integrity. It jumps out when you meet him in person. He is someone who builds authentic and long-lasting relationships... He cares about his players on the court, cares about them off the court, and wants to help develop them into future leaders.

You know, this is a great day for our program and our community... I belong here. My family belongs here. We're going to do amazing things in the Capital Region because in my heart and in my soul I want to impact people... It's my job to make sure our basketball program leads people the right way. I've got to develop our young men. I've got to touch their hearts and their souls. If I can do that, I can help us put a banner in this building, and I promise you I will do that.

Impact Off The Court

In addition to his coaching experience, Killings founded Coaches for Action - a working group of 21 minority assistant basketball coaches in the BIG EAST, to challenge the conference’s member campuses to sustain their efforts and voices to address social injustice.
