Scouting Delaware

The Blue Hens are a must-watch team in the CAA this season, coming in at No. 9 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25. This season they have beaten CAA rival Maine, 34-24, on the road and took down Saint Francis University 27-10 in the team’s home opener. The only loss on the season thus far has come against FBS opponent Rutgers, falling 13-45 in New Jersey. Like UAlbany last weekend, Delaware was on a bye.

The Blue Hens boast the conference’s fifth best offense, averaging 24.7 points per game, and the conference’s sixth best defense at 26.3 points per game. Running back Dejoun Lee sits atop the entire CAA averaging 81.3 yards per game on the ground. The star back, a graduate student, is averaging 5.4 yards per carry and has one touchdown to his name this year. Throwing the ball for the Blue Hens is Nolan Henderson – a redshirt senior quarterback averaging over 200 yards per game, tossing four touchdowns on the year.

Last Time Against Delaware

The Great Danes trail in the all-time series against the Blue Hens, 2-5. UAlbany got the upper hand the last time the two foes met, however, claiming a 21-17 win in 2019 while on the road. In that game, the UAlbany defense was outstanding – recording three sacks and recovering two fumbles. Karl Mofor ran for 132 yards and Jeff Undercuffler threw three touchdown passes. Former wideout Juwan Green, who was flexed to the Atlanta Falcons active roster this past weekend, caught seven passes for 132 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The Great Danes were scheduled to travel to Delaware in the Spring, with the season being canceled before that time.

  • Villanova 17, Penn State 38
  • New Hampshire 7, Pitt 77
  • Richmond 10, Virginia Tech 21

Big Time – Great Danes in the NFL

UAlbany Football received not one, but two pieces of good news from around the NFL this past week. Before last Sunday’s games, former wideout Juwan Green was flexed to the active roster of the Atlanta Falcons – he previously spent time on the team’s practice squad after catching Atlanta’s only touchdown through the air during the preseason. In addition to Green, former defensive back Jarren Williams was signed to the practice squad for the New York Giants this past Monday. Not a bad week for former Great Danes.

One Tough Schedule

The Great Danes have had a tough start to the 2021 season, with no help coming from the schedule. UAlbany faced No. 4 NDSU on the road to start the season before immediately jumping into conference action against Rhode Island at home and traveling to face FBS foe Syracuse on the road. After a needed bye week, the Great Danes return for another two games on the road – traveling this weekend to face No. 9 Delaware before going to Virginia to take on William & Mary.

Tyler Carswell
We’re excited for Delaware. It’s a big game, but every game is a big game – because it’s the next game. They have some ball players, but so do we. I think it will be a good one.
