Recap
The University at Albany baseball team attempted a series sweep of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, but fell short in game three with a 10-3 loss. The Great Danes scored first for the first time this season in the loss.
After a scoreless first two innings, the third inning saw the game's first runs scored. In the top half, Maryland Eastern Shore retired the first two hitters before Brad Malm hit his first triple of the season. Alex Thul drove in Malm with a single, giving the Great Danes a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom half, the Hawks' leadoff hitter singled, stole second, advanced to third on an error and scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. After a walk and single were sacrifice bunted to second and third, Maryland Eastern Shore's Devynn Hancock hit a two-run single. He would score on a double in the inning, giving Maryland Eastern Shore a 4-1 lead after three.
The Great Danes were held scoreless before the Hawks struck again in the bottom of the fourth inning. After a single with one out, a one-run double followed by a one-run single gave Maryland Eastern Shore a 6-1 lead.
The fifth inning featured a pair of 1-2-3 innings. UAlbany was set down in order in the sixth inning and Maryland Eastern Shore capitalized on UAlbany's slow momentum. With runners on first and third base with two outs, Hancock hit a one-run single for his third RBI of the game, giving the Hawks a 7-1 lead.
For a third-straight inning, the Great Danes were send down 1-2-3 in the seventh. In the bottom half, Maryland Easter Shore struck for three more runs. A one-run double with one out, score on a wild pitch and two-out RBI single gave the Hawks a 10-1 lead after seven innings.
In the eighth inning, Nick Kondo gave the Great Danes their first baserunner since the fourth with a leadoff single, but was left on base. A walk was the only baserunner for the Hawks in the bottom half.
John Daly was hit by a pitch in the ninth, followed by a Jason Bottari single. Matt Soloman reached on an error and Michael Whalen, who pinch ran for Daly, scored. Will Lawrence hit a one-run single the next at bat, giving the Great Danes their third and final run of the game. After hitting Joe Gisonda, Maryland Eastern Shore made a pitching change and got the next two UAlbany hitters to fly out, sealing their 10-3 victory.
