Short Story: UAlbany track & field sees five school records fall in a three-meet weekend.

 

Thursday – Florida Relays

 

  • Chidinma Matthew placed 24th in the open division of the women's 200m in a wind-aided 24.05; Jahari Coleman placed 65th in a wind-aided 24.83 (24.829)
  • Jan Michael Gutierrez Almedina placed 35th in the men's open 200m in a wind-aided 21.23 (21.224), which is the fastest overall mark in the event in program history, surpassing Junior Burnett's wind-legal 21.24 from 2006; Harmodio Cruz placed 76th in a wind-aided 21.89, and Garfield Napier placed 78th in a wind-aided 21.90 (21.895)
  • Matthew LeLiever placed 55th in the men's open 400m in 50.59
  • UAlbany alumna Grace Claxton, running for Puerto Rico, placed second in the women's 400m hurdles open division in 56.82

 

Friday – Florida Relays

 

  • Sophia Myers placed 38th in the women's college 100m hurdles in 14.33
  • Chidinma Matthew placed 38th in the women's college 100m in 12.06
  • Matthew JeanPierre placed 54th in the men's college 800m in an outdoor personal-best 1:53.26
  • Bryan Nicholson placed 15th in the men's college discus in 152-08.00; David Carlson placed 19th in 147-00.00
  • Asia Jinks placed 15th in the women's college 400m hurdles in a personal-best 1:00.42
  • Victor Cotto placed fourth in the men's college long jump in an outdoor personal-best 24-02.25
  • Venique Harris placed third in the women's invitational discus in a collegiate-best 186-00.00, surpassing her own school record set two weeks ago by nearly four feet
  • The men's 4x400m relay of Jan Michael Gutierrez Almedina (48.1), Harmodio Cruz (48.1) JeanPierre (50.1) and Matthew LeLiever (49.1) placed 31st in 3:15.72
  • Amiynah Campbell placed 18th in the women's college discus in 139-02.00
  • UAlbany alumnus Ricardo Estremera, running for Puerto Rico, won the men's college 3,000m steeplechase in 8:45.24

 

Friday – Stanford Invitational

 

  • In section three of the women's 3,000m steeplechase, Kelly Iocca placed eighth in 10:46.69, and Colleen Maloney placed 13th in 11:15.74
  • In section three of the women's 5,000m, Cara Sherman placed 16th in a personal-best 16:40.19; in section two, Hannah Reinhardt placed eighth in a personal-best and school record 16:06.02, surpassing both Brittney Lane's outdoor record of 16:21.12 from 2013, and her own indoor record of 16:16.27 set during the latest indoor season
  • In section two of the men's 10,000m, Kyle Gronostaj placed 22nd overall in 29:29.72, breaking his own school record of 29:32.41 set last season
