Connor Fields Named 2017 USILA DI Most Outstanding Attackman

ALBANY, N.Y. – After earning a Division I best 117 points this season, Connor Fields has been honored with the Lt. Col. J.I. (Jack) Turnbull Award for most outstanding attackman in DI, announced by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) on Friday.

The Turnbull Award is given to the top attack in the country in each NCAA division.  UAlbany has been the recipient of the Turnbull Award for three of the last four years, with Lyle Thompson earning the honor in 2014 and 2015.

Fields adds this honor along with being the 2017 America East Offensive Player of the Year and a 2017 Tewaaraton Trophy finalist.

Fields averaged a Division I-best 6.5 points per game this season, totaling 117 points off 55 goals and 62 assists.  The 117 points is the fourth-highest single season points total in Division I history, just 11 away from the top mark of 128 by Lyle Thompson in 2014.  He added 27 ground balls and nine caused turnovers.

His performance helped UAlbany go 15-3 this season, earning the America East Tournament and regular season titles plus an NCAA Tournament victory over 2016 NCAA champion North Carolina.

Other award winners in Division I was Matt Rambo of Maryland for Lt. Raymond J. Enners Award (outstanding player), Trevor Baptiste of Denver for Lt. j.g. Donald MacLaughlin Award (outstanding midfielder), Ben Pugh of Richmond for Ensign C. Markland Kelly, Jr. Award (outstanding goalie) and Timothy Muller of Maryland for William C. Schmeisser Award (outstanding defensive player).
