Bowen Returns from Brazil; Hibbard and Sherman Head to Junior Nationals

ALBANY, N.Y.—For a select few, the 2016 outdoor track & field season is still in swing. Among those competing are two freshmen, Anika Hibbard and Cara Sherman, who have both qualified for the USA Track & Field Junior National Championship in Clovis, California. Alexander Bowen competed over the weekend for Panama's National Team in the Grande Prêmio Brasil Caixa De Atletismo.

Alexander Bowen traveled to São Bernardo do Campo in Brazil, where he competed with the Panama National Team. Bowen tied for sixth place in the men's high jump with a mark of 6'9”.

Two members of the women's team will represent the Great Danes in the upcoming Junior Nations. Cara Sherman, a local product from Rotterdam, New York, is entered in both the 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter race. Her time of 9:46.00 during the indoor ECAC championships qualified her for the 3,000-meter race. In the 5,000-meter race, she qualified during the Penn Relays with a time of 17:00.21.    

Anika Hibbard, from Bedford, New Hampshire, hit the qualifying mark in the women's high jump during the UAlbany Spring Classic with a mark of 5' 9.25". She currently holds the number one spot on the all-time list and is the best female high jumper in UAlbany history to date. This year alone, she has broken the school record multiple times.

The 2016 USATF Junior Outdoor Championships will begin on Friday, June 24 and last until Sunday, June 26. The meet will serve as a selection for the IAAF World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, July 19-24. The women's 5,000 is set for Friday at 8:00 p.m. PT. The women's high jump will start at 6:30 p.m. PT, followed by the 3,000 at 8:00 p.m. PT.
