Most Improved: Calvin Butlak

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.—In the final weekend before the America East Conference Championships, the University at Albany indoor track and field program returned to the Ocean Breeze Complex for the Fastrack National Invite.

Since this meet served as the last opportunity for competition before conference, the Great Danes sent a partial group of student-athletes, allowing most of the team to rest.

Senior Paige Vadnais placed ninth in the 60-hurdles preliminaries, running a personal best of 8.83 to qualify for ECAC. She also earned Track Athlete of the meet for her performance. Sidney Gibbons earned eighth overall in the men's hurdles in a time of 8.15.

In the women's 400-meter invitational section, Grace Claxton ran a 54.78 for fourth place. Breanna Cummings placed tenth in the women's 800-meter race with a time of 2:17.22.

Ryan Udvadia captured third place in the men's 3,000, running a time of 8:26.94 and earned Track Athlete of the Meet. Freshman Calvin Butlak ran an 8:40.66 for 18th place and earned Most Improved Athlete.

The men's 4x400-relay team of Taariq Jones (47.4), Myles Banfield  (47.7), Momodou Jobe (55.0), and Jason Tomlinson (47.7) earned seventh place with a collective time of 3:18.18. The quartet was initially on track for a 3:09 pace, but faced a slight mishap during the race.

Mande Semon placed sixth in the men's long jump with a mark of 22' 7.75". Sophomore Kadeija Brown earned seventh place for the women with her 16' 11.5" mark.

In the women's weight throw, Chinwe Igwe placed fifth overall with a mark of 57' 8.25".  Lauren Lopano followed behind in seventh with a mark of 54' 9.5". For the men, David Carlson placed ninth with a mark of 52' 9.25". Tara Belinsky threw a 42' 0.75" for ninth place in the women's shot put.

Up next for UAlbany is a return to the Ocean Breeze Complex for the America East Championships, where the men are ten-time defending champions, and the women are three-time defending champions. The meet is scheduled to begin Friday, February 19 and continues on Saturday, February 20.
