Stony Brook, N.Y. - Jordan McBride scored five goals and Timmy Trenkle added three, as Stony Brook stormed past UAlbany, 23-11, in America East Conference play on Saturday, April 23 LaValle Stadium. The Seawolves clinched a share of the league's regular-season title and secured the top seed for the upcoming conference postseason tournament.
     Stony Brook (8-3, AE 4-0) scored twice early in the second quarter to break a 5-5 deadlock. Brett Drost sent a shot from the right wing into the net off Tom Compitello's pass from behind. Russ Bonanno's attempt at the goal was blocked, but midfielder Robbie Campbell corralled the ground ball and scored from the top of the crease. Campbell had two goals and one assist.
     UAlbany (4-9, AE 0-4) sliced the deficit in half when freshman Ryan Feuerstein tallied off Rocky Bonitatibus' right-to-left skip pass over the defense with 9:18 left in the period. The Seawolves, who are ranked No. 14 in the USILA poll and No. 13 by Nike/Inside Lacrosse, then ripped off five unanswered, including four in a two-minute-and-49-second span for a 12-6 halftime advantage.
     Compitello, a senior attacker who had two goals and handed out four assists, had a hand in a pair of goals 18 seconds apart. He set up Drost for the first goal and then scored himself after defenseman Kyle Moeller collected a ground ball after a face-off. McBride scored twice, including a shot from left of the crease after Kevin Crowley dodged a defender from the top of the zone. Trenkle ended the run when UAlbany turned the ball over at midfield during a clearing attempt.
     The Seawolves, who posted their fifth consecutive win, pounded away in the third quarter with four goals in a row to start the period. McBride, a three-time first-team all-conference selection, found the net twice in a 19-second span, the first coming after a long possession on the offensive end. Trenkle later moved into the middle and hit the lower right corner with a blast. Kyle Belton deposited Compitello's feed for a 16-6 cushion.
     Bonanno finished with two goals and one assist for the Seawolves, the defending America East champions who advanced to last year's NCAA quarterfinals. Freshman Miles Thompson led the Great Danes with a career-high five goals, plus had two assists. Joe Resetarits scored twice and assisted on another goal.

Paw Prints: UAlbany has dropped four straight contests for the second time this season ... the Great Danes, who have lost seven consecutive road games, dating back to last year's conference championship game, allowed the most goals by an opponent since Virginia scored 23 in the 2005 NCAA Tournament ... Miles Thompson (5 goals, 2 assists) tallied the most points by a freshman since Brian Caufield had seven points against Stony Brook on May 1, 2008 ... Caufield, now a senior, moved past Kurt Randall (1992-94) into eighth place on the school's all-time scoring list with 156 points (67 goals, 89 assists) ... Dean Steinmann, who is playing with a long pole, tallied his first goal as a collegian ... Joe Resetarits has scored a goal in 31 consecutive games, tying Virginia's Chris Bocklet for the nation's longest streak.
