Burlington, Vt. - Drew Philie and Luke Ryder scored three goals apiece, as Vermont ended a nine-game skid in the series with an 11-6 America East Conference victory over UAlbany on Sunday, April 10 at Moulton Widner Field. The Catamounts, who have won all five home games this season, posted their first win against the visitors since 2001.
     In the first half, Vermont (6-5, AE 1-1) ran off six unanswered goals to build a 7-1 advantage. Ryder, a sophomore midfielder, scored twice in that stretch, including a drive from the right when he worked in his way toward goal around a defender. Thomas Galvin gave his team a four-goal cushion by hitting the lower left corner in a man-advantage situation. After a UAlbany turnover, the Catamounts' Derek Lichtfuss converted in transition off Kodie Englehardt's feed. Geoff Worley ended the outburst with a shot from the right point.
     UAlbany (4-7, AE 0-2) tried to get back into the contest by scoring a pair in the final three minutes of the second quarter. Matt Johnson drilled a low, sidearm shot from the left wing. Miles Thompson added a tough-angle bkast for his team's second extra-man goal of the half with 31.3 seconds remaining.
     Still ahead 8-4 early in the fourth quarter, the Catamounts put the game away by scoring three straight times. Galvin tallied an extra-man goal by finding the left side of the net. Philie and Worley scored 43 seconds apart. Philie, the team's top scorer, canned his 25th of the season with a man-advantage. A.J. Masson, who handed out four assists, set up Worley with 3:38 remaining.
     The Great Danes, who have dropped six of their last seven outings, were coming off a road loss to third-ranked Johns Hopkins less than 48 hours earlier. Brian Caufield and Miles Thompson each had one goal and one assist. UVM goalkeeper David Barton, who entered the contest with a .545 save percentage, turned aside 13 shots.
