Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's
Casey Wright, a junior middle hitter, and Kaley Jacobson, a freshman setter,
earned the first America East Conference Volleyball weekly awards of the
season, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. Wright was
chosen conference player of the week while Jacobson was the rookie of the week
recipient after leading the Great Danes to a 2-1 record on the first weekend of
play.
Wright
averaged 4.30 kills and 1.60 blocks as well as a .456 hitting percentage, which
puts her at the top of the league in all three categories. As a member of the
all-tournament team at Clemson's Big Orange Bash, Wright also recorded four
service aces. She started off the weekend with a career-high 21 kills against
Tennessee Tech to go along with a .514 hitting percentage and six total blocks.
On Saturday, Wright totaled 13 kills with a .600 hitting percentage and another
six blocks before wrapping up the tournament with nine kills and four blocks
against the host Tigers. Seven of her 16 total blocks were of the solo variety.
Jacobson
saw action in all three matches at the Big Orange Bash, averaging 8.89 assists
and 1.78 digs per set. She also recorded three service aces and four block
assists in her collegiate debut. She totaled 24 assists, three digs and two
block assists in the opening win over Tennessee Tech and followed up with a
30-assist, five-dig performance against Jacksonville. Jacobson completed the
weekend with 26 assists, eight digs and one service ace against Clemson.
